Introduction
Rumeli Fortress stands on the European shore of the Bosphorus, opposite Anadolu Hisarı. Mehmed II built it in 1452 to control traffic through the strait before the siege of Constantinople. Its great towers and the walls that connect them occupy a hillside beside the water.
